Helenya Apostolou

Helenya Apostolou (b. 1998) is a multidisciplinary artist from North Wales whose work sits between chaos and control, movement and stillness. Her bold, colour-saturated paintings, drawings, and digital designs pulse with energy, using the Samoiloff Effect to turn layered illustrations into hypnotic, looping animations that shift and distort under red, green, and blue LED light. A First-Class Fine Art graduate from the University of Leeds (2021), Apostolou uses colour as both a visual and emotional force - manipulating Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow to create tension, rhythm, and intensity. Her practice digs into the psychology of perception and storytelling, allowing images to fracture, reform, and breathe. Even without the light effects, her work hums with life, capturing a restless sense of movement that refuses to stay still.
