Joe Blackwell
Joe Blackwell (b. 1996) is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work serves as a mechanism for navigating ADHD and processing personal trauma. His practice took root in 2020 during the height of the pandemic, while he was recovering from lung cancer. Confined to his mum’s house and needing support, Joe began creating with whatever was within reach: stickers, markers, and collages cut from old skate magazines.
His style is a direct reflection of the street art and skate communities he grew up in, trading traditional gallery polish for a DIY, high-energy aesthetic. Joe uses repetitive sticker motifs to build "larger wholes," a process that mirrors the internal noise and hyper-focus of the ADHD brain. What started as a tool for survival during recovery has evolved into a vibrant exploration of how we piece ourselves back together after a crisis.
