Ludvig
Ludvig is an artist and music maker from London, now living in Hove. He started painting walls in the mid-1990s and has not looked back.
Style and technique are important to Ludvig and set him apart from other writers. He chooses not to use products made specifically for graffiti, preferring instead to use everyday products; household emulsion is preferred to spray paint. This gives his work a specific look and style, one that is not fixed in fussy details and ‘clean’ technical pieces, but pushes a more immediate, raw and expressive approach to mark making. This ‘dirty’ style allows incidental elements to exist in pieces with no corrections, making the first line drawn, the right line. Works on smaller scale canvas and paper, although varied, embody the same energy and a strong handmade, DIY ethic.
Inspirations behind Ludvig’s work come from many areas of life, including early to mid-1970s graffiti, large roller-painted protest messages from the 1980s, metal bands and visual language, techno, politics, music, films, literature, rave culture, news events and the ever-crazier world. These filter into Ludvig’s art and appear from time to time clearly or more prominently.
